We Built This
History of Buffalo Butte
Our family business started out as a family farm by my great grandfather in the early 1900's. After some hard times and bad weather events it was repossessed by the bank.
The Springers in 1920
Thanks to hard work and pioneer spirit the farm was bought back by my great grandfather in 1920 and has stayed in the Springer name going on the 5th generation with my son Dillon actively involved with the business.
The Future of Buffalo Butte
In 2003 my wife Colleen and I felt we needed to do something different to keep our farm profitable and sustainable for future generations. It was no easy decision to mortgage four generations of hard work tempered by successes and failure to see our dream come to fruition but we made the leap of faith to build the Main Lodge at Buffalo Butte Ranch. We were told by some that we would be bankrupt and lose it all in five years. For the first two years we were wondering if they were right. With God's good grace, family support and our hard work we own and operate a very successful hunting lodge.
You Didn't Build That
As in most family business we do it all, cook, clean, maintenance, etc. More often than not we have 40 hrs in by Tuesday afternoon. I know what it took to build our business and to keep it going. We don't want Mr. Obama or anyone else for that matter telling me or the generations before me that "You didn't build that" because we sure did and we are proud of that.
